Amsterdam - Day 1!

(What is thepowerof365?)

23rd August 2011
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Day 1 of our one week getaway as soon as we settled down in Sweden. The group of us skipped an entire week of orientation or whathaveyou for our virgin outbound trip. How exciting!!!
At Kastrup, Copenhagen Airport
Scrambled to look for our place of accommodation as soon as we arrived at Amsterdam.

Took a direct rail from Schiphol International Airport to Amsterdam Central Station.
No time for photos because I was still trying to blend in with the rest who took no photos/touched their cameras LE SIGH! hahahha Well, how could we rely only on our eyes when photographs stir up such good memories. The best moments are in living, the next best are caught in frames.

I remember the first thing Sue told us when we stepped out of the airport "This place smells of weed." The air in Amsterdam is definitely much different from that in Sweden. It's light, airy and free in Sweden while it's heavy, smells of something (not always pleasant) and busy here. It's the air of the busy people who charge around in their bicycles. Interesting with added notoriety and rowdiness from the people around too.
View from our room at Hotel the Globe which was strategically located at the heart of the Red Light District. Sounds so dodgy but it was clean and good enough. Failed to take pictures of our rooms.. Now I wish I did that for all of our places of accommodation :(
Hungry Asian kids shriek at the sight of Chinese food. Thanks to Shijie who has Amsterdam's must-sees all stuck at the back of her head. Kudos x 123456. Her recommendation..

Amsterdam

Oh yes how deprived we were in Lund with hardly any Asian supermarket or reasonable Chinese food.  A plate of fried rice costs $20 SGD. What grains of gold.
Went crazy over our Wanton dumpling soup, roast duck, roast pork, claypot tofu, stir fried vegetables. The servings were HUGE though I guess that helps justify the price.
Proper Asian food is difficult to come by, aside from the Chinese takeaway in the form of stir fried noodles and random pieces of fried fish/chicken.
Map of Amsterdam showed how organized the entire city is! The rows and rows of canals. Love it!
The beauty of the architectural landscape in Amsterdam lies in the unique design of each building. Each building stands out by itself yet forms a beautiful sight altogether. Amsterdam's really full of these!
Amsterdam's world famous red light district in the day and yes, "Window-shopping" in every literal sense of the word.
Row after row of canals as we walked through the city. I really loved it there.hahahahahaha wow how i looked like 365 days agoSky so blue
Shaun the navigator. Only guy in our group and always with the map heheShaun and his sexy pose
I remember someone jokingly asked Shaun if he was a pimp or a hairdresser when he saw that Shaun had 5 girls by his side.
I then spent SO MUCH time at the square taking pictures of this man and his huge bubbles (you'll see). It was as if I haven't seen bubbles in my entire life -.- But he was fascinating! Two wooden sticks, one woolen string, bucket of soap (?) and Voila!
Look at how happy the kids were!
The bubble man's bags and paw friend.
Spam of bubble man in my photo stream really makes me wonder what in the world was i thinking 365 days ago.....

Precious group photos that we took..
Started pouring like mad so we took a pitstop at a random somewhere!
The start of our endless cups of hot chocolate, coffee and tea throughout the months. lol
Ohhhhh supermarket I LOVE!!
ATMs are so short, hidden and tiny!
Huge cone of fries. so sinful but the fries really taste different omg yummy
Only in Amsterdam.
I remember I was pretending to take a picture of tracy while trying to take pictures of the night "scene".. cameras weren't allowed in the district but i....

before i could succeed, the next thing I saw was one of the ladies flinging her door wide open, pointing and screaming at us (or maybe specifically at me -.-) "hey you f**king b*tches!" End of day 1. So exciting with so much adrenaline pumping in me. Amsterdam is SO vibrant!
