Amsterdam - Day 3!

(What is thepowerof365?)
25th August 2011
Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Slightly overdue so I'd better catch up with this!

3rd and final day in Amsterdam. Made a day trip to Zaanse Schans (of windmills and such)! Lucky for us that the weather held up, the past few days were rainy/unpredictable showers. Zaanse Schans is so damn beautiful, the pictures will do the speaking.
Breakfast at a small and cozy cafe (again, I wish I took pictures sigh!)
I can't really remember what we ordered but I remember that these were yummy. esp the plate of scrambled eggs and toasts that Eelin & I shared! Dutch pancakes with chocolate, strawberries and whipped cream for the sweet tooth kids Shannon & Tracy. Sue deals with one croissant. Shaun also eats something. The dutch pancakes were al-right. Nothing to scream about but yes Dutch pancakes in Holland! *Check!
Bus ticket that all 6 of us could use. Clever concept, without having to purchase numerous single trip tickers.
Took a ~45minute bus ride from Amsterdam Central Spotted. Interesting sign spotted!
I still can't figure out what it means. We're no longer in Amsterdam?
WHOOHOO ZAANSE SCHANS!!!! oh my the windmills.
I love it when I come across interesting signs like these which we can never find in Singapore. The pond was entirely covered with moss. It really looked like a green piece of land! Anyone would have walked right through if not for the warning sign.
The cute wooden shoes. Everything's so traditionally Dutch!
Big girl in big shoe
VS
Small girl in small shoe

hahahahha just how cute is this little girl!!
CHEESE CHEESE AMAZING CHEESE
Yummy Pesto cheese + honey mustard. So so so SO good!!!!
Torture to be looking through these photos right now. The windmills and houses are too beautiful.. reminds me of the happy times in Amsterdam with our newly forged friendships and newly covered grounds. Perfect, perfect times.
Adorable ice-cream "truck" selling banana flavoured ice cream yum yum! Uncle stopped me from taking pictures, so sad..
The photos taken here were amazing. I think they're the best from the entire lot throughout my 4-5months in Europe. The power of blue skies, happy hearts, cheerful people, luscious greenery and flowers!

Almost time to leave the beautiful place..
How the bus driver does it with our tickets
Back in Amsterdam for the Heineken Experience (somewhat a museum)
Wort is tasty!!! It does not taste like "barley water" or "barley drink" that we do here in Singapore, though I really can't remember the exact taste of wort.
Nearing the end of the tour, we were each given a small glass of Heineken to do a group toast with many others who were on the same tour with us. We had some "free" (sort of) Heineken that came along with our entrance fee.
These wristbands were considered our entrance passes. Two green tabs in exchange for two glasses of Heineken.
End of our time in Heineken!
Spotted a group of girls having a 'pink' party. Look at the row of pink bicycles! A group of guys were having a 'suit' party somewhere down the same road. oh oh ahhhhh~
These 3 crosses EVERYWHERE in Amsterdam. Initially, Shaun said it marked the boundaries of the red light district because of the XXX markers. That made some sense but didn't seem quite like it because we see XXX on almost everything - sewage covers, trucks, walls and etc.

They actually symbolise the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
The pink ladies. I'm guessing that they were having a bachelorette/hens party or some sort!
Magerebrug
So amused by this flower. Looks like something that I can easily cut from paper hahaha
Fascinated by the jet black and velvety petals. The evening sky was breathtaking. Painted in gorgeous hues of pink, lilac and blue.
Sofa from somewhere. Two men in the middle of a huge square. Only in Europe. Love love love it.
Everyone glued to their phones because of free wifi from somewhere. How sad that we were often disconnected from the cyber world (to me it was a huge blessing in disguise, really) because our Lycamobile sim card for Sweden seems to work only in Sweden! We could only rely on wifi throughout most of our trips out of Sweden.

Sometimes, we sat at a dinner table just eating and not talking at all. We connect to disconnect. This was how extreme it got :/
Spotted a group of strange behaving people. "Leaders" decked in suits while his "troop" were looking ridiculously funny. Couldn't make up what were they doing, all dressed up in the red light district. Very interesting though. The men in suits were fierce.
It's the I love You shop hahahaha
Our last dinner in Amsterdam. We looked hard for "wok to walk" (ohhhh Asian fooood) again but failed...
Apple pies & lemon cakes in Holland. Checkkkkk

The first trip out of Sweden.. Definitely the most memorable one too. Zero museum/cathedral/travel fatigue. Fresh and open-minded. My best photos are probably these taken in Amsterdam. Again, so blessed with clear blue skies and carefree lives then. Best time in my life!

While i'm not so big on flowers, I guess I secretly like flowers enough to be taking pictures of so many of them without realizing. Ah, new discovery.

Goodbye Amsterdam! Off to Brussels!!!
