IKEA~~~~

Hej hej!

This is the continuation to arriving and settling down in Lund, Sweden! Given the strong (?! okay, slightly..) Swedish culture influence in Singapore in recent years, Singaporeans remember IKEA for Sweden and Sweden for IKEA. They kind of go hand-in-hand I guess.

The strong and clean lines of Swedish/Scandinavian interior.. the Swedish meatballs.. the lingonberry jam.. the herring.. the cinnamon rolls.. the princess cake.. the list goes on, but we're clearly intrigued by the food. Singaporeans and our eating culture. NEVER SAY DIE.

IKEA, MalmöOn our way to IKEA at Malmö!

The iconic blue and yellow combination that we all know by heart!

I would say there is nothing different in Malmö's IKEA as compared to those back home in Singapore. There might be a few more pieces of furniture and decorative items here and there. Not that i'll even notice.. but that's really about it!

The only big difference (and probably a problem) is the language and pricing. Everything written in Swedish, with interesting characters like Å, Ä, and Ö in the Swedish alphabet. It's really fun trying to figure out what each word could mean. Also not forgetting how happy we were each time we managed to guess a word correctly! tsk tsk.

We also have to divide every number that we see by 5.. so everything started off as "OMG SO EXPENSIVE?!?! HOTDOG FOR $5?!" to "orh chey.. heng ah, $1 only." Typical tourists hahahah

Had lunch before shopping so there's no pictures of us stressing over which blankets, utensils, floor mats, pillows, etc to get. :( So stressed how to take photo!? Since there's nothing much about the usual furniture, let's just see how different the foooood section really is! Anyway, I haven't been to IKEA Singapore in a reeeeeeally long while.. So please pardon me if the one in Singapore is actually becoming more alike to the ones in Sweden! i.have.no.idea!

Ice cream boat that is 5SEK each (Swedish kroner / crowns)!
Swedish Cinnamon Roll (Kanelbullar)
There's a hint of ginger to it.. Yummy yum yum!

sweets and more sweets!

Apple cider

Conveyor belt to return our trays after eating. Very clean and neat!

The thing to do at IKEA everywhere in the world - QUEUE FOR FOOD ^^

A wider variety of desserts!
Meatballs (köttbullar) were really cheap on the day that we were there. Lucky us!

Additional 5sek for a bowl of salad! Loving the cabbage salad that looks like coleslaw without the white dressing!

hehehehe so many pastries to choose from before heading to the cashier! i love the bread, pastries and what have you in Europe! any ugly bread can taste so good!! *bread fanatic*

Meet the meatballs! Okay, the verdict..... it really does not taste anything more brilliant than the ones in IKEA Singapore :/ to console myself, alright.... i guess the ones in Sweden were more meat-like(?), cheaper and contributed to the feel good factor because I was eating them in Sweden -.-" sad to say, after eating this, i've lost my heart for Swedish meatballs. Disappointed.. I was really looking forward to it!!! :(

Okay, done with IKEA in Malmö. There really isn't much difference, not even in the food section, is there? Lol, standardization at its best :O

Oooooh, so many birds in the sky :)

o yes! did i not mention, the period when we just arrived in Sweden, we had very very long hours of exposure to daylight. The sun typically rises at 4-5ish am and sets at 9-10ish pm. It was really "quite cool" at first because it seemed like the sun never sets! You know just how we always want to keep doing things to keep ourselves occupied because it's not dark..

No darkness means no reminder to have dinner, no reminder to go home, no reminder to shower, no reminder to drink or party or anything like that. Daylight also kind of indicates that we should not be sleeping. So we didn't. It got quite tiring after a while because we tried so hard to engage in as many activities as possible, to stay out etc, but the sun never seemed to set -.- The weather was extremely lovely though, at 18-20 degree Celcius, low humidity (yay yay yay!) and constant breeze.. puuuuuurfect!

Back to Lund

We bought an entire box of gelato to share amongst 5 of us! Yay to the waffle biscuits hehehe

Lund Cathedral
VERY beautiful on the inside. Don't be cheated by the ageing exterior.

Tack means "Thank You" in Swedish.

Mixedtallrik; a plate of mixed stuff LOL.
Plate of Falafel (the fried balls of chick peas; love these!!), kebab and chicken. Looks damn messy but really quite yummy :)

Ok! I realize I am still at my first week in Europe.. Too many pictures too many pictures!! Working on it :) I still want to blog about CNY while it's pretty current (though ended yesterday :( ) Hoping that my sickening sickness will go away so that I can catch up with work and the likes. Driving me crazy just thinking about how much I am lagging behind :(
